A message from DSF Board President Walt Deering:
As we enter the holiday season, and as our attention turns towards remembering our friends, our families and those in need, we hope that you will consider including the Diplomatic Security Foundation (DSF) in your gift giving this year. Thanks to the generous support of so many of you, the Foundation has been poised to react swiftly to those in our extended DS family in need. In 2007, DSF provided more than $70,000 in monetary gifts to those seeking assistance, more than double the amount we were able to provide in 2006. With your continued support, we hope to continue this trend in the coming year.
The Diplomatic Security Foundation has responded to numerous requests for assistance this year. Our goal is to provide immediate and focused financial assistance to members of the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service and other colleagues in the law enforcement and foreign affairs communities. In many instances, DSF is uniquely poised to help where other worthy charitable organizations are not. However, we can only do this with sufficient funds available. We have been able to assist those in need due to the generous support of individuals and corporations committed to helping families coping with difficult and often tragic situations. A few recent examples of our activities include:
• $15,000 to the surviving families of three Turkish police officers killed during a terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Istanbul. • $8,000 to cover uninsured medical expenses for a DS Special Agent undergoing cancer treatment. • $5,000 to support the medical treatment for the son of a Bolivian National Police officer who has been assigned to the embassy in Bolivia for the last 10 years. • $10,600 to four Nigerian guards/police injured safeguarding the Consulate Lagos community.
The list of our activities is much more extensive, but the above examples provide just a glimpse of our global concerns and assistance capabilities. A full list of our activities may be viewed on our website: http://www.ds-foundation.org/dsfassistancegifts.html. All donations given by DSF are considered gifts, with no pre-conditions and no expectation of repayment.
Make your contribution today and take pride in knowing that your gift is vital to providing assistance to your colleagues throughout the Diplomatic Security’s world-wide family. Gifts may be made using the attached form, or directly on our website http://www.ds-foundation.org/holidaygiftprogram.html. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact Sarah Rothleder DSF Manager, manager@ds-foundation.org or check our website for more information. Gifts can also be made by participating in the National Capital Area CFC. Our CFC number is: 96262
And don’t forget: corporate matching gifts are a great way to maximize personal contributions to the Foundation and increase the impact of your gift. By taking advantage of a company's matching gift benefit, you may be able to double or even triple the amount of a contribution. Request a matching gift form from your employer, and send the completed form to us. We’ll do the rest.
The Diplomatic Security Foundation is a charitable 501(c)(3) organization, making your gift 100% tax deductible for the current year if you give before December 31, 2008.
Thank you again for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Walt Deering President, Diplomatic Security Foundation
